An Interview with Sara Roy, Career Ownership Coach®, Featuring Karan Kamerkar

What happens when corporate stability disappears—and you decide to bet on yourself instead? In this episode, I sit down with Karan Kamerkar, a former client whose career journey took an unexpected turn and ultimately led him to business ownership.

Karan and I were introduced in September 2024 through a referral, during a time when he was navigating repeated layoffs and growing uncertainty in his career. Today, he is the Managing Director of Recruiting 404, a boutique recruiting firm that partners with AI-driven and product-led technology companies to build high-impact teams.

With more than a decade of experience across marketing, go-to-market strategy, and operations, Karan now works closely with founders, executives, and investors to hire top talent across AI, SaaS, cybersecurity, product, and revenue roles. In our conversation, he shares what pushed him to explore business ownership, how opening himself up to new possibilities changed his mindset, and why clarity often comes after taking action—not before.

We also talk about the coaching process, the importance of self-discovery and assessments, the realities of funding a business, and what it’s really like to transition from corporate life into owning and building something of your own. Karan reflects on how business ownership has reshaped the way he thinks about money, work, and long-term fulfillment.
